The 8th Annual Meeting of the Low-Carbon Society-Research Network (LCS-RNet) took place in Wuppertal on the 6th and 7th of September. The conference was hosted by the Wuppertal Institute together with the Federal Environment Ministry as German representatives of the network. Prof. Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer co-chaired the event.

More than 70 representatives from science and politics met to discuss how to trigger the non-linear transformation towards full decarbonisation (by 2050) as targeted by the G7 (Elmau) and COP 21 (Paris). Participants from 13 different countries also addressed the question of how a "new deal" for green growth could be designed and achieved. Further thematic key aspects were the role of cities, energy intensive industries and non-state actors for long term decarbonisation.

The end of the meeting marked a joint session with the IST Conference, which was held at the same time in Wuppertal. Presentations and a panel discussion highlighted the question of how to exploit the synergies between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and low carbon societies as well as the new role of science in the context of the SDGs and climate policy after Paris.
