The Methodology of Living Labs

Designing and assessing sustainable living

  • News 17.10.2016

Living Labs are very promising research, design, co-creation and and communication facilities for development and implementation of sustainable innovations in the home. That is one of the results presented in the new book "Living Labs. Design and Assessment of Sustainable Living". The multi-annual project with sustainable Living Labs in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands aimed at understanding daily living at home in order to design products and services that support households in their transition to more sustainable lifestyles.

The book provides an introduction to the methodology and business modeling for the Living Lab facilities and discusses developing and testing design methods to create sustainable solutions for households. These new methods and tools are needed because those available are either ineffective or cause rebound-effects.

"Living Labs. Design and Assessment of Sustainable Living", which contains a number of chapters by Wuppertal Institute's scientists (see links below), was published by Springer and is available for purchase online.
