What are possible ways for German and Chinese urban planners to learn from one another? That was the leading question of the project "The Learning City: Interdisciplinary Studios for Sustainable Urban Development - A Sino-German Inititative". Experts from the University of Chongqin and the TU Berlin developed together with German and Chinese students - under the leadership of the Wuppertal Institute and the Energy Foundation China - sustainable urban planning concepts for the Chinese metropolis Chongqing over several weeks and workshops. At the stakeholder forum in Chongqing on 28 November 2016, project partners and students discussed the concepts with representatives from the fields of politics, science, industry and civil society. The focus of the discussions was the restoration of the quickly developing quarter Yuzhong. Among the participants of the forum was a delegation from the city of Dusseldorf, which is the German twin town of Chongqing, and the mayor of Dusseldorf, Thomas Geisel. The project was patronised by the Stiftung Mercator.
