  • Press Releases 22.06.2007

The fourth call for "Sustainable Energy Project Support" (SEPS) is now open. WISIONS, an initiative of the Wuppertal Institute, and the supporting foundation ProEvolution have agreed that they will continue to support projects financially, with expert advice, knowledge transfer and promotion to relevant institutions. The total amount of grants for all projects is 500,000 EUR (deadline: 1 August 2007).

Energy is a key topic in society as it is essential for our everyday life. A widespread use of renewable energy technologies (RET) is vital for securing a sustainable global energy system. Furthermore, the access to innovative energy sources can help to reach the Millennium Development Goals, like the reduction of poverty and health risks, a better education and an increase in business opportunities. However, the implementation of sustainable energy technologies often fails due to economic, administrative and financial barriers. In addition to that, good-practice examples and technical knowledge are sometimes lacking.

WISIONS aims at fostering practical sustainable energy approaches of strategic importance and promotion of good-practices. It tries to overcome some of the barriers and fills the gap of knowledge transfer. Within WISIONS, SEPS supports innovative and feasible projects, which are ready for implementation.

In the last three years, applications from all over the world have shown that there exists a large number of organisations, engineers, project developers, NGOs etc. with great potential, excellent ideas and useful concepts. Their ambition and motivation is to focus on a more sustainable way of energy use in their regions and to convince the people of its advantages.

Up to now, 25 projects in 16 countries have been successfully funded through SEPS. Most of them are in the implementation phase, already showing notable successes as well as lessons learned for future projects.

Apart from SEPS, WISIONS offers a large variety of good-practice examples within its approach of "Promotion of Resource Efficiency Projects" PREP. The examples are presented in informative and user-friendly brochures as well as on the webpage.
