Smart Energy Solutions for Africa

The SESA project published the "Sustainable Energy Solutions Catalogue"

To strengthen local opportunities for economic development and social cohesion in Africa, sustainable access to renewable energy and business models that are easy to replicate is essential. The project "SESA – Smart Energy Solutions for Africa" brings together scientific institutions, universities, industry stakeholders, policy makers and networks from Africa and Europe. The aim is to test, validate and replicate innovative solutions in Living Labs on the ground - including pilot projects in countries such as Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.

As part of this project, researchers from the Wuppertal Institute, in cooperation with project partners, have published a catalogue of sustainable energy solutions in Africa. This catalogue contains approaches and concepts designed to ensure the viability and sustainable success of the energy solutions and business models tested. Ten factsheets present the key data on the sustainable energy solutions being tested in the SESA project. These include electromobility and the productive use of solar energy, for example.
The factsheets include information on the respective energy solutions, the technologies behind them and the appropriate business models, their impact, the potential for scaling up as well as examples from the African context and their climate-proofing strategies.

The catalogue is aimed specifically at early stage energy practitioners, political decision-makers and civil society organisations – especially at local level – and can be accessed via the following link.
