Climate Action of Civil Society in Germany - Identification of Strategic Funding Priorities

  • Project no.2277
  • Duration 05/2012 - 10/2012

Civil society plays a crucial role in promoting climate protection in Germany. Different stakeholders already engage in a variety of climate protection related activities. Besides NGOs, our analysis included stakeholders as diverse as consumer associations, trade unions or church initiatives.

The project focused on both: future challenges ("How could German civil society actors engage in climate protection?") and on a screening of current activities (stakeholders, field of activity, financing options). The results support the sponsors in reconsidering their funding activity and enable them to share basic insights with the public and other potential donors.

Interim results of the study (see Downloads) have been presented by the sponsors in a panel discussion: "Philanthropy and climate protection - How can foundations help shape the energy transition?" (Berlin, 18 June 2012).
