Critical Review of a Comparative LCA of Different Omega-3 Fatty Acid Sources for Salmon Aquaculture

  • Project no.450944
  • Duration 07/2016 - 09/2016

Within this project a critical review of a comparative LCA of different omega-3 fatty acid sources used in salmon aquaculture farming is conducted. The underlying LCA builds on the international Norm (ISO 14040 and 14044). According to ISO 14044, a critical review shall ensure that

  • the methods used to carry out the LCA are consistent with this International Standard,
  • the methods applied are scientifically reasonable and technically valid,
  • the data used are appropriate and reasonable in relation to the goal of the study,
  • the interpretations reflect the limitations identified and the goal of the study, and the study report is transparent and consistent.

The TÜV Rheinland coordinates the review activities and validates the ISO-conformity of the study. The SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden Food is involved to review the scientific and technic validity. The critical review of the Wuppertal Institute is meant to ensure a transparent and consistent documentation where possible limitations of the study are reported transparently and requirements from society are represented.
