If national climate targets are to be met, a deep decarbonisation of the energy system and especially the power system is necessary. Thus, there is a need to phase out coal use for electricity generation. The last two years have seen many proposals in the scientific and political debate on coal phase-out. On behalf of the Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU), the Wuppertal Institute will compile existing ideas concerning the pace and the design of this transition process.
