Towards a Global Energy Transformation

Study for the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung

  • Publications 22.05.2014

"An energy transformation will not happen without friction, because ownership and power structures have to be fundamentally restructured. It is rarely that the expansion of renewable energy is impeded or even prevented because of immutable facts or technical conflicts. Instead, long-established structures and elites consider the challenges of an energy transformation as problematic and sustain the existing system and their own (market) power with corresponding narratives", says the preface of the study "Towards a Global Energy Transformation", by Germanwatch and Wuppertal Institute. The authors examine the current situation of the transformation at different levels and present the conflicting interests. Furthermore, several case studies of energy transformation are introduced. The study is published by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and is ready for download on its website.
