Evaluating the CDM Sustainable Development Tool

Usefulness and recommendation

  • Publications 28.08.2015

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects are meant to contribute to both climate change mitigation and the sustainable development of the CDM host countries. The Sustainable Development tool (DS tool) aims at making these effects visible and reportable. The tool has been evaluated by the Wuppertal Institute and the final two reports have been published. The paper "Assessing Usefulness: Do Stakeholders Regard the CDM's SD Tool as Practical?" consists of a literature review and interviews with stakeholders. The project team recalls and synthesises the findings of the previous two work packages in their final paper, "Reforming the CDM SD Tool: Recommendations for Improvement", and discuss the pros and cons of the tool. The analysis aims to provide structured recommendations for and possibilities to further develop the tool on the way to a globally harmonised, flexible assessment of mitigation actions for Sustainable Development.

The papers are available for download.
