Should carbon capture and storage (CCS) be a viable technological option for significantly reducing future CO2 emissions in China? To answer this question, Wuppertal Institute's Peter Viebahn, Daniel Vallentin and Samuel Höller conducted an integrated assessment. Five different assessment dimensions were covered, and each dimension is investigated using specific methods. Results show that the most crucial precondition is a reliable storage capacity assessment based on site-specific geological data. Further requirements are economic viability, ecological impacts and public support.
