How do we get to the required Transformations?

Triple book launch and discussion in Berlin

  • Events 13.09.2016

Global transformation, radical change, and the paradigm shift are required to achieve a sustainable future, a healthy economy, and widespread well-being. This is the consensus view in IPCC reports on Climate Change, in studies on Planetary Boundaries, in debates about competitive business models, and in discussions on reinvigoration of economic growth, the digital revolution, and the challenge of providing food, water, and energy for up to 10 billion people. The UN Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has captured these discussions in the vision and roadmap "Transforming our World". It contains goals and targets that pose formidable challenges for all sectors and all countries.

But do these goals truly comprise a consensus vision of the development of human societies? And even if the world does agree on the goals and targets, how do we actually get there?

These questions are discussed in the tripple book launch with Maja Göpel (Wuppertal Institute), Petra Kuenkel (Collective Leadership Institute), and Steve Waddell (Networking Action). Maja Göpel's book "The Great Mindshift. Why We need a New Economic Paradigm for Sustainability Transformations" discusses the need for a new economic paradigm for sustainable transformations and describes the path towards implementing it. In Petra Kuenkel's book "The Art of Leading Collectively: Co-Creating a Sustainable, Socially Just Future" shows how individuals can actively promote sustainability and an economy for well-being by finding their leadership role in a spirit of collaborative co-creation and contribution to the common good. And Steve Waddell shows in "Change for the Audacious. A doers guide to Large Systems Change for a flourishing future" how engaged individuals and parties can create a future that is not only sustainable but also flourishing. He views these transformations as large systems change issues that can only be accomplished by the actions of many.
