As part of the International Climate Protection Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation regularly invites non-European scholars of different fields of science to Germany. The DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation) organises for these scholars a three weeks long introduction seminar throughout Germany on the topics of climate mitigation and resource conservation. The scholars thus gain insight into the status quo of the fields of technology, research, structures and implementation of environment and climate protection in Germany. As part of their travels, 20 young climate experts from developing countries visited the Wuppertal Institute. After a short introduction by Alicja Darski, Matthias Wanner presented local projects and talked about real-world laboratories and "Transformation Research in Wuppertal", and Lukas Hermwille gave a "Report from the Climate Conferences in Paris and Marrakech".

After visiting the Wuppertal Institute, the scholars proceeded to explore the Mirker Bahnhof/Utopiastadt.
