SUMPs-Up Innovation Pilot Pool

Applications due 7 June 2017

  • News 30.05.2017

The need for more sustainable and integrative planning processes as a way of dealing with the complexity of urban mobility has been widely recognised. The CIVITAS SUMPs-Up project aims to accelerate the uptake of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) across Europe by combining comprehensive transport research, tailored capacity-building, technical assistance and support as well as SUMP monitoring and evaluation techniques. 100 planning authorities representing cities and regions in Europe will engage in the SUMPs-Up Innovation Pilot Pool (IPP) and take part in the SUMP Learning Programme (SLP) to trial and assess the effectiveness of the SUMP Tool Inventory, make recommendations to improve tools and services for SUMP development, and eventually apply the SUMP concept and make significant progress in their planning process. Interested parties can apply now to become part of the IPP community.

The first 40 IPP participants will be selected via the first CIVITAS SUMPs-Up IPP call. They will join the Expert Group for six months and their activities will focus on tools and services for initiating a SUMP and for initiating a SUMP tailor-made for small and medium-sized cities. An additional 10 IPP participants will be selected to join the Leadership Group and will assist CIVITAS SUMPs-Up for three years.

The remaining 50 IPP participants will be selected via similar calls for applications in 2018 and 2019.

The Wuppertal Institute is part of the SUMPs-Up project organising this call for applications. Stefan Werland and Oliver Lah will supervise ten cities within the project.
