Participation of the Youth as Part of a Social Transformation towards Sustainable Development

The future of youth participation in North Rhine-Westphalia

  • News 26.07.2017

The future belongs to the youth, but do they really have a say in it? Learning processes with regard to a successful socio-ecological change must start in childhood and adolescence in order to succeed in social transformation.

One step towards sustainable development is the implementation of the Sustainable Development Development Goals (SDGs). For this, participation is an important key towards the door of sustainability. This paper by Mona Treude, Dorothea Schostok, Oscar Reutter and Manfred Fischedick (all Wuppertal Institute) attempts to present how participation with the special target group of young people can be successful. Therefore, the authors tested two participating concepts under different conditions.

The paper "The Future of North Rhine-Westphalia-Participation of the Youth as Part of a Social Transformation towards Sustainable Development" was published in Sustainability, volume 9, issue 6. It is available for free download.
