NRW Climate Lounge

The event series "NRW Climate Lounge" offers events alongside COP23 on nine weekdays from 5 – 7 p.m.

Before introducing the topic of the day, the Wuppertal Institute will present the daily update on the current official negotiations at COP23.

Next, everything will revolve around the question as to which role subnational stakeholders play in the World Climate Conference. The “Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action", also known as the Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA), was launched at COP22 in Marrakech. It aims to bring non-Party stakholders – subnational governments, cities and municipalities, companies, investors as well as the general public – under one roof to compile good ideas, pilot projects, strategies and best practices for climate protection. This targeted exchange should speed up the implementation of climate protection measures.

This event seeks to shed more light on the vision and objectives of the "Global Climate Action Agenda" and to demonstrate the role that subnational governments could assume in the framework of this initiative. In doing so, we’ll take a look across the pond at the US, where its states are currently playing a very important role in climate protection.

Moderator: Helen Clarkson, Chief Executive Officer, The Climate Group
