Cities are Drivers for Alternative Economies

Conference "Reclaim Our Economy", Essen

  • Events 27.10. - 29.10.2017

"Reclaim Our Economy" was brought into being because the organisers feel that, contrary to the current state of affairs, the first priority of our economy must be to serve the planet and the people. Continuing with the current status quo would be no option, instead, change, new solutions and cooperations are needed.

The transformational change that the organisers aim for encourages a re-politicised awareness and willingness to actively engage in the shaping of our economy. To pursue the mission, they promote an inclusive and informed debate about the economy, facilitate core projects, support existing initiatives, utilise research, and undertake lobbying. This results in an approach that is at the same time creating a new economic narrative as it supports the building of a new economy.

On the first day of the conference, Hans Haake (Visiting Researcher, Wuppertal Institute) and Dr. Uta von Winterfeld (Project Co-ordinator of the Research Group Future Energy and Mobility Structures, Wuppertal institute) are guests and keynote speakers. The topics of their lectures are "Glücks-App in Wuppertal. Alternative Prosperity Measurement" (Haake) and "(Non)-Hegemonic Transformation Processes in Cities" (Winterfeld).
