The Wuppertal Institute on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) is going to conduct a side event titled "Private actors in Art. 6 activities" on the fringe of the Bonn climate change conference. The event is going to take place on November 14, from 11.30 to 13, at Bundespresseamt, in walking distance from the UN conference centre.
Private actors have played a crucial role in the Kyoto climate mitigation mechanisms, namely the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and Joint Implementation (JI), respectively. While the cooperative mechanisms according to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement bear on some of the characteristics of the Kyoto Mechanisms, they are embedded in a totally different regime architecture.
This side event discusses possible new roles for private actors in Art. 6 activities, lessons learnt from the Kyoto Mechanisms, and reviews early pilot initiatives. It is targeted at Carbon Market practitioners, policy makers, researchers as well as all interested in the development of emissions trading and market-based mitigation instruments.
The event is going to feature an introductory presentation by Wolfgang Obergassel (Research Group Energy, Transport and Climate Policy at the Wuppertal Institute) and a moderated discussion. Panelists include:
Moderator: Christof Arens (Project Co-ordinator, Research Group Energy, Transport and Climate Policy, Wuppertal Institute)
The side event will take place at the Federal Press Office, Bonn Branch Office, Welckerstraße 11. The event is open to the general public; no UN accreditation is required. After the event, a small lunch will be served. For registration and further information, please contact Christof Arens via e-mail: christof.arens@wupperinst.org
