On 29th of January, the European Commission invites stakeholders and the wider public to take part in the launch event of the EU Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV), being held in the Charlemagne Building, Brussels. The observatory has been initiated to tackle energy poverty of European citizens. As of today, more than 50 million households are struggling to keep their home adequately warm, to pay their utility bills and live in houses free of damp and mould. The conference will provide its participants with information on the objectives and instruments of the observatory platform and will be an opportunity to gather feedback on the expectations regarding the EPOV.

Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, will give a keynote speech. The Observatory is being developed by a consortium lead by the University of Manchester and includes the Wuppertal Institute as one of the core partners. Of the Wuppertal Institute, Johannes Thema, Project Co-ordinator in the Research Group Energy Transport and Climate Policy will introduce to the audience the section of the platform containing energy poverty indicators.
