The rapidly increasing urbanisation, particularly in Asia and Africa, has consequences for humans and the environment. Cities currently account for about 70 per cent of energy consumption and energy related greenhouse gas emissions. Proper urban planning with the integration of energy, transport and resources sectors in the delivery on the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) is vital for the success of global climate change mitigation efforts and inclusive urban accessibility.
As part of the ninth session of the World Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Oliver Lah, Head of Research Unit Mobility and international Cooperation at the Wuppertal Institute, presents the project Urban Pathways and the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative. The objective is to present outline the program to develop concrete low-carbon energy, mobility and waste-management implementation actions.
In cooperation with UN-Habitat and city partners several events and trainings will be offered with a focus on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, a global programme for sustainable urban development.
