The Wuppertal Institute organises a one-day stakeholder workshop in Ouarzazate, Morocco on 26th April 2018 in cooperation with the Moroccan research institute MENARES as part of the research project "Water resources as significant factors in the energy transition at local and global level" (WANDEL). The project WANDEL is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The aim of the workshop, is to discuss together with local stakeholders potential socio-economic development pathways and their effects on the regional water demand.

The workshop is the first in a series of three workshops to be conducted as part of a case study on Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants in Morocco. The case study analyses the linkages between water resources and energy technologies. Thereby contributing to answer the central research question whether restrictions in water availability can accelerate or delay the global energy transition. The Wuppertal Institute, as part of a research consortium of nine German research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), coordinates the case study on CSP in Morocco.
