IN4climate.NRW is a new working platform involving industry, science and the North Rhine-Westphalian state government, which to date, is unique in Germany. The initiative aims to develop strategies to enable the North Rhine-Westphalian industries to maintain their high level of competitiveness, generate additional growth and contribute to achieving the Paris climate protection targets.

Climate protection is to become a driver of modernisation for North Rhine-Westphalian industry and a means of securing the future competitiveness of domestic industrial ventures. Developing innovative approaches, such as for prospectively climate-neutral production processes, is an absolute necessity.
For this reason, the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has established IN4climate.NRW. The platform facilitates the initiation of a collaborative, innovative work process by experts from North Rhine-Westphalian industry, science, and the state government.

Industry partners involved in the initiative include enterprises and associations from various energy-intensive sectors such as the steel and metal, chemical, cement, glass, paper, and building materials industries. In addition, scientific support is to accompany the working process.
More specifically, the partners will work in so-called innovation teams to examine how production processes and value chains can be rendered climate-neutral in the long term or how industry can contribute to the development of climate-friendly products. The scientific partners will conduct the necessary studies, while specialists from the state government will work on shaping framework conditions that are conducive to innovation and climate change.
