Manfred Fischedick on a Conference Tour

Vice-President of the Wuppertal Institute travels to Seoul

From 21 to 25 October, Prof. Dr. Manfred Fischedick, Vice-President of the Wuppertal Institute, will travel to South Korea on a business trip, where he will give various lectures, present project results, perform on the podium, discuss with the participants and the audience, and engage in cooperation talks.

The international conference "Domestic and Foreign Policies on Decarbonization and Climate Change" from 21 to 22 of October will be hosted by the Green Technology Center (GTC) and the provincial government of Chungnam. During the session "Policy Implications for Applying to Local Goverments Based on Korean-German Joint Research", which will take place from 14.10 pm to 15.00 pm on 21 October, Manfred Fischedick will present the results of a current and smaller project (GTC_R&D), which was developed in cooperation with the Green Technology Center. Within the framework of this project, possible fields for future cooperation in the (further) development of corresponding policy instruments and above all regional initiatives with mutual benefit for both countries were identified against the background of the far-reaching experiences with sustainable, climate-friendly technologies in the two countries South Korea and Germany. Then he will discuss the topic "How to Promote Cooperations Among Local Governments of Korea and Overseas" with other experts, including Dr. Suil Kang and Dr. Tae Kun Kim from the Green Technology Center, Min-Hwi Kim (Korea Institute of Energy) and Denis Fourmeau (Science Attaché of the French Embassy in South Korea) on the podium.

During the "KIREC Seoul 2019 – The 8th International Renewable Energy Conference", which will take place from 23 to 25 October in Seoul (COEX Center), Manfred Fischedick will take part in the panel discussion of the session "Policy and Market Design – Systematically Advancing Renewable Energy Globally and in End-use Sectors: The Need for Better Integration" between 16.30 pm and 18.00 pm on the first day of the event. Prior to this, he will discuss with Dr. Hom-Li Tee (Deputy General Director of the Industrial Technology Research Institute ITRI) and Prof. Sun-Jin Yun (Chairperson of the Korea Energy Information Agency KEIA) between 14.00 pm and 16.00 pm in the form of a trilateral dialogue on the challenges, opportunities and country-specific experiences of energy system transformation.
The meeting of the REN 21 – Renewables Now Network, which brings together international actors from politics, science, industry and others, will take place as part of KIREC 2019. Manfred Fischedick will give a lecture on "Germany's Current Situation of Energy Transition – Chances and Challenges: Quantitative and Qualitative Aspects Regarding Jobs and Structural Change" in the side session "Renewable Energy, New Opportunities in Jobs and Industry Transition" and participate in the subsequent panel discussion. This item will take place on 24 October between 10.00 am and 12.30 pm.

Parallel to KIREC 2019, the "2nd Korean German Energy Day" will take place on 24 October 2019. Fischedick will present the results of the study "System Integration of Renewables and Smart Grids" of the Wuppertal Institute under the title "Comparative Overview of System Integration of Renewables in Korea and Germany" between 15.15 pm and 16.55 pm in the afternoon and then discuss the integration of renewable energies into the existing system with other representatives from science, politics and industry.

Manfred Fischedick is also an active participant in the Seoul Mayors' Forum on Climate Change 2019 and will attend the annual meeting of the Seoul International Energy Advisory Council (SIEAC).
