Industry consumes a third of global final energy consumption, for that it has a key role in the transition to a sustainable and environmental-friendly future ahead. In all sectors energy efficiency is the key to decarbonisation, productivity gains, energy security, improved competitiveness and socio-economic benefits. Better energy efficiency also reduces costs in terms of maintenance, production stand-still and insurance fees, as well as achieving positive employment benefits throughout the economy. The Industrial Efficiency 2020, an event on energy efficiency in industry, presents and discusses current and emerging trends in industry, new business models, digitalisation, industry 4.0, the circular economy and resource efficiency. The multiple benefits of energy efficiency are of particular interest.

Due to the COVID-19 virus and the resulting travel restrictions, the Industrial Efficiency 2020 takes place as a digital event. The event will consist of side events and plenaries in the mornings and parallel sessions on different panels in the middle of the day, from 14 to 17 September, 2020.

Six panels will focus on different aspects of efficiency in industry. Panel 6 "Deep decarbonisation of industry – technologies, strategies & implications for policy, industry and research" will be led by Dr. Marlene Arens, Postdoctoal fellow at the Lund University, Sweden, and Prof. Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer, Director of the Future Energy and Industry Systems Division at the Wuppertal Institute.

One of the cooperation partners of the event is the initiative IN4climate.NRW, which is accompanied by SCI4climate.NRW, the scientific competence centre headed by the Wuppertal Institute. Further information can be found under the following links.
