Updating of the German Waste Prevention Programme

The German waste prevention programme (WPP) of the German Government with the participation of the federal states was adopted in 2013. It is to be evaluated every 6 years and updated as required. Within the research project "FortAVP" the Wuppertal Institute and its project partners Ökopol, INTECUS and ifeu conducted a study for the German Federal Environmental Agency, which has now been published. The project team determined and evaluated the current status of the implementation of the WPP and selected waste prevention measures. The researchers identified priority waste streams for the future waste prevention programme. These include plastic packaging waste, food waste, waste electrical, and electronic equipment and construction and demolition waste. The project results will be incorporated into the further developement for concrete waste prevention concepts. These cover public procurement, repair and preparing for reuse and supporting product service systems. The project results contribute to the further development of the German WPP in 2020.
