Klimawandel und Energiesysteme

Verwundbarkeit und Anpassungsoptionen der Energiewirtschaft in Nordrhein-Westfalen

  • Publications 23.11.2011

Climate change affects many areas of human life; amongst others the provision and organization of energy. It is already possible to observe the effects of climate change for different process stages and power systems. Long-lasting heat waves increase the demand for electricity for cooling appliances and simultaneously delimit the provision of electricity, because cooling water is not available in sufficient quantity and temperature. Increasingly frequent storms and floods threaten infrastructure for power generation and transport. These and other effects will increase in future and be supplemented by new ones, so that the energy industry is facing a new challenge. Along the process chain of energy supply, it will be shown which steps are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. On the basis of adaptation options it is also shown how resilient energy systems can be developed that are resistant to climate changes.
