Steps Towards Carbon Neutrality

Japan seeking to reach carbon neutrality until 2050 and Germany even as early as 2045 certainly need ambitious short-term goals for 2030 and 2040 to ensure that they are on the track. Here, the post-Covid-19 economic recovery has the potential to trigger substantial climate protection measures. To what extent did the pandemic affect the energy consumption, the social behaviour and the climate policies? What role does artificial intelligence and Big Data play to optimise electric grids? How can carbon capture utilisation and capture (CCUS) as well as hydrogen contribute to decarbonise energy-intensive industries? The German-Japanese Energy transition Council (GJETC) has analysed these and other questions in its recent studies.

Together with their Japanese partners Professor Dr. Peter Hennicke, Senior Advisor for the Wuppertal Institute, and Dr. Stefan Thomas, Director of the Energy, Transport and Climate Policy Division at the Wuppertal Institute, will present the GJETC study results from 2020/2021. Both are Co-Chair and member of the GJETC. Following which the audience is invited to discuss the results in order to derive policy recommendations. In addition, the GJETC will present the more recent developments and solution perspectives of both countries' climate protection strategies and discuss them with the audience.

The participants are invited to contribute to the Q&A session afterwards on 2 Juli, 2021 starting at 9.00 till 10.30 am. The registration for the online conference is free of charge and available via the following link.
