On Tuesday 28 September 2021, Times Higher Education (THE), with the support of Huawei, invites you to a virtual roundtable on "Eco-innovation: How green technology is powering a sustainable recovery in Germany?.

As the global higher education sector grapples with the immediate challenges and financial ramifications posed by Covid-19, this roundtable discussion will explore how universities, governments and industry across Germany can work together to put eco-innovation at the heart of the economic recovery from the pandemic.

At the beginning, Prof. Dr. Philipp Schepelmann, Senior Researcher in the Urban Transitions Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute, will introduce the roundtable with a keynote. During the discussion, among other aspects, the environment in Germany for eco-innovations and their performance in comparison to national climate targets will be discussed. The question of what can be done to successfully transfer knowledge from universities and research institutions to the business and society will also be explored. The role of start-ups and spin-offs in accelerating the transfer of knowledge around green tech will also be examined. How can Europe partner with major players such as the US and China – the largest producer of renewable energy on the planet – to fuel a green circular economy?
