Wuppertal Institute Presence at COP26

Side events during the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow

  • Events 31.10. - 12.11.2021
  • Location Glasgow & online

After decades of negotiations, the Paris Climate Agreement finally created an internationally agreed framework for the fight against climate change with contributions by all countries. From 31 October to 12 November 2021, the international community gathers at the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow to further advance the implementation of the Agreement.

The focus of the Glasgow negotiations is on finalising the Paris rulebook, i.e. the final details for implementing the Agreement. Among other things, rules for cooperation between states under Article 6 of the Agreement are to be agreed in Glasgow. Article 6 offers states the opportunity to cooperate in implementing their nationally determined contributions and to trade emission reductions among themselves in the process. Other focal points of the negotiations include the design of the transparency and reporting framework and climate finance.

The Wuppertal Institute has been observing the UN climate process from the beginning and published an assessment after each conference soon after its close. In addition, the Wuppertal Institute presents its research in numerous side events and discusses effective ways for implementing the Paris Agreement.
