  • News 09.11.2021

During the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which is currently underway, negotiations on the Article 6 rulebook are on the agenda again. Early indications are that an agreement is within reach. The debate has been taken forward in intensive discussions with experts, the Head of Delegation sessions or the ministerial meeting. In the meantime, Article 6 piloting is also in full swing.

Therefore, the current Carbon Mechanisms Review (CMR) addresses both the negotiations and the Art. 6 piloting its latest issue called "Towards implementation?". First, the CMR features an assessment of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) chair's "options paper" on one selected issue: the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) transition. In addition, the issue reports on developing country engagement under Article 6. The authors also review recent developments in the World Bank's Partnership for Implementation and explore how to credibly transform the voluntary market. Besides, they discuss ways to help overcome barriers to Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in carbon markets.
