The global balance and the local energy supply must be balanced to enable the population to live a good life. This statement is the basis for the second edition of the European Energy Transition Conference "Grand Genève". From 31 May to 2 June 2022, participants will discuss about the energy transition in Switzerland, France and Europe.

Anja Bierwirth, Head of the Urban Transitions Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute, will participate in the plenary "DU NORD AU SUD DE L'EUROPE, DES EXPÉRIENCES INSPIRANTES" (From North to South Europe, Inspiring Experiences) on 31 May. Together with Kirsten Dyhr-Mikkelsen (City of Copenhagen) and Lorenzo Pagliano (University of Milan), she will talk about sufficiency and its contribution to sustainable urban development.

The three experts will present their practical examples for saving energy and discuss the concepts of three European countries. How can the proportion of people who cycle or walk be increased? What role do concepts play in which residents share services and facilities in order to reduce land consumption per person? What experience has been gained in passive cooling of buildings? These are just some of the questions at stake. In a three-hour workshop, the approaches will be discussed and elaborated in more depth with other stakeholders from local government, energy supply and civil society.

The event will be held in Geneva in English and French. Detailed information on the programme and registration can be found in the link below.
