Carbon Mechanisms Review: reports, analyses, and interviews on prospects for international carbon markets after the Glasgow breakthrough

  • News 29.04.2022

It was with great relief that many observers greeted the breakthrough at the climate summit in Glasgow, which led to the adoption of the Article 6 rulebook for implementing the cooperative approaches of the Paris Agreement. Therefore, the road ahead for international carbon markets looks promising, while at the same time some obstacles remain on the way for implementing the Glasgow mandates for carbon markets.

Against this background, the latest issue of the Carbon Mechanisms Review (CMR) features an interview with UNFCCC veteran John Kilani on the robustness of the Glasgow decisions, future market trends and the carbon market potential of the Arab region. The issue also features a report on the Japanese conferences processing the Glasgow outcomes and an analysis of the next steps for Art. 6-related negotiations. It presents an initiative to redesign existing carbon market methodologies and the latest research by Nicolas Kreibich and Franziska Jüde – both Researchers in the Global Climate Governance Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute – on regulating carbon neutrality claims.
