Researcher will present study results on key strategies of Germany and Japan for climate neutrality

The German-Japanese Energy Transition Council (GJETC) has been working on comprehensive joint recommendations for the implementation and further development of the energy transition. At the GJETC Outreach event on 9 November 2022, the Director of the Energy, Transport and Climate Policy Division at the Wuppertal Institute, Dr. Stefan Thomas, together with Toshiya Okumura (IEEJ) will present "The Role of Batteries towards Carbon Neutrality". The Researcher Thomas Adisorn from the Energy Policy Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute and Yoshikazu Kobayashi (IEEJ) follow up on this with their presentation on "Potential Roadmaps for Decarbonization of the Steel Sector”. The Junior Researcher Lotte Nawothnig from the same Research Unit and Hideaki Obane (IEEJ) will give an "Update on the Comparative Analysis of Long-Term Scenarios discussing Decarbonization Strategies in Japan and Germany in Times of Change."

The presentations are followed by a discussion on how the dependence on Russian gas affects the energy supply security in both countries. Prof. Dr. Peter Hennicke, Senior Advisor at the Wuppertal Institute and Co-Chair of the GJETC, gives an Input on the German and EU Policy and the outlook after the Ukraine war. Prof. Masakazu Toyoda (IEEJ), also Co-Chair of the GJETC, will give an input "On Current Japanese Policy & Outlook after the Ukraine War".

The online event is open to the public, free of charge and will be held in English language with simultaneous interpretation into Japanese language via Zoom. Further information can be found under the link below.
