The latest assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as well as the annual UNEP emission gap report once more reiterated that time to achieve the temperature limits of the Paris Agreement is running out. Regardless, while the climate conference in Sharm El Sheikh made history by agreeing to establish a fund on loss and damage, it made little progress on preventing loss and damage from occurring in the first place by containing climate change.

On the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, our scientists who have been following the negotiations will take stock at the Wuppertal Lunch "Last Call for 1.5 Degrees – Roundup and analysis of the results of the climate conference in Sharm El Sheikh" on 12 December 2022 from 12.30 to 14.00. In doing so, they will clarify questions such as: What has the conference actually achieved? How can further progress be made?

In addition, they will discuss the conference outcomes on the panel with the following participants:

  • Wolfgang Obergassel, Co-Head of the Research Unit Global Climate Governance at the Wuppertal Institute
  • Anna Peréz Català, Researcher, Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (IDDRI)
  • Sabine Minninger, Senior Policy Advisor on Climate Change, Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World)

Dr. Lukas Hermwille, Senior Researcher in the Research Unit Global Climate Governance at the Wuppertal Institute, facilitates the virtual Wuppertal Lunch.

Registration is possible via the link below. Participants will receive an Email confirmation with information on participation in the Wuppertal Lunch after registration. Participation in the Wuppertal Lunch is free of charge.
