The new issue of the Carbon Mechanisms Review examines the role of Article 6 for international carbon markets and analyses the upcoming negotiations at the World Climate Conference in Baku to operationalise the article.
Capacity building, particularly for governments and stakeholders in the Global South, is a core element of the "Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation" (SPAR6C) project. In the corresponding article, the authors report on the progress made in the participating countries (Colombia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zambia) and discuss how knowledge transfer can contribute to achieving global climate goals in the long term.
Another article is dedicated to the legal challenges surrounding climate neutrality claims in the EU and Germany: Based on an analysis of recent court rulings, the authors focus in particular on the lack of transparency in the use of carbon credits, which often leads to accusations of greenwashing. They emphasise that clear rules and accountability are necessary to restore trust in the voluntary carbon market and ensure its integrity.
The last article in the current issue emphasises how the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) initiative supports countries in reducing nitrous oxide emissions in industrial processes.
