From 17 to 19 October 2025, young people will meet in Lüneburg for the climate conference LCOY – Local Conference of Youth. They will have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with stakeholders from politics, business and society in different formats: There will be workshops and interactive lectures, discussion panels and fireside chats, as well as a market of opportunities, where organisations, associations and initiatives can present their work. Moreover, the LCOY offers a diverse framework program, including Werewolf and Just Dance games, (PowerPoint) Karaoke and a live band. Participants can also get to know other young people in the World Café, during debate rounds and at meet & speed events.

Nearly 100 speakers will address the topic of climate change at the LCOY 2025. Katja Witte, Acting Director of the Future Energy and Industry Systems Division at the Wuppertal Institute, will lead a roleplay on the implementation of sustainable structural change on the first day of the event at 9 pm. Topic is the hydrogen-economy of a region in northern Germany near Lüneburg. Participants will work together on the structural change, taking on the perspectives of different stakeholders. In addition, Marina Fecke and Dominik Martin from the Circular Transition Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute will give a joint lecture on the behaviour of consumers and business models in transition to a circular future.

The LCOY takes place annually in Germany since 2019. A team of volunteers is organising the LCOY 2025, sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Senate Department for Urban Mobility, Transport, Climate Action and the Environment.

Young people between the ages of 14 and 30 can register for the conference free of charge. Meals are included for the entire weekend. Persons under 16 years may only participate in groups or accompanied by adults. Those interested can register via the link below.
