On 24 June 2026, the German Council for Consumer Affairs – abbreviated SVRV, per its German name – published its statement entitled "A Moratorium on EU Digital Legislation is Not a Solution". The statement was prompted by the final report of the German Commission on Competition & Artificial Intelligence, which was set up by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy: In its report, the Commission advocates a moratorium on EU digital legislation and recommends that the German Government not support the proposal for a Digital Fairness Act (DFA) announced by the European Commission for the end of 2026. The SVRV does not share this assessment and advocates support for the DFA.
Prof. Dr. Christa Liedtke, Director of the Sustainable Production and Consumption Research Division at the Wuppertal Institute and a member of the SVRV, is one of the authors of the statement. "Fair competition requires fair digital markets. Consumers must be protected from manipulation in this area and be able to identify sustainable and fair offers," explains Liedtke.
