International Energy Efficiency Initiative (Phase 1)

  • Project no.3239
  • Duration 10/2008 - 12/2008

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy are intending to launch an international internet platform which addresses the problem of scattered information in the field of energy efficiency cooperating with partner institutions on the international level and in selected partner countries as well as with further investors. The aim of the platform is:

  • to strengthen the awareness of the multifunctional utility of energy efficiency especially on the demand side,
  • to achieve solid knowledge about technical solutions, potentials, economic benefits and costs of energy efficient solutions,
  • to provide - in a coherent, integrated and comprehensible way - feasible implementation strategies as well as policy and action packages to stakeholders and target groups,
  • to stimulate the communication about these topics.

During phase I, the Wuppertal Institute together with the Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production analysed the needs and secured the willingness to co-operate of important potential partners for the collection and for the use of the knowledge in partner countries. The proposal for the platform was very well received from governmental and non-governmental side in the five newly industrialising countries which have been examined. We were able to identify potential partners particularly in India and China. Moreover, the planned internet platform and further products based on it were developed in detail.
