Sustainable Out-of-Home Catering

The influence of the out-of-home catering sector, which after food retailing is the most important sales channel for the food industry on the daily supply of people, are still increasing. More and more people are taking advantage of the offers of out-of-home gastronomy. In 2016, on average, every German eats more than 140 times out of home (BVE 2017). Therefore, the sector is an important area for achieving a turnaround to promote sustainable nutrition.

The NAHGAST II project aims to support a resource-efficient and socially inclusive economy. Against the background of NAHGAST, the project will step forward by:

  • a further development of the online tools which are available at
  • harmonised interventions to promote a sustainable choice of food are examined with the help of various partners in practice  
  • In addition, information on food waste will be tested in three consecutive case studies with three practice partners

The aim is to use an optimised communication and transfer concept to increase the use of the online tools at and their connectivity to existing digital systems such as those, which are used in the out-of-home catering sector.
