The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an overall plan to allow people worldwide to live a good life in peace and in an unspoilt environment.
The challenges to achieve these goals require enormous social, economic and ecological changes. Orientation, innovation and cooperation are essential as are interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. To this end, science can and must make a decisive contribution, especially in times of crisis, given its strength in terms of balancing short-term solutions and long-term effects.

The science platform Sustainability 2030 (wpn2030) provides science with a place to do the above effectively within the framework of the 2030 Agenda and the German Sustainable Development Strategy. The platform's research coordinators are: SDSN Germany (Sustainable Development Solutions Network Germany), DKN Future Earth (Deutsches Komitee für Nachhaltigkeitsforschung in Future Earth) and the IASS Potsdam (Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies).

All three institutions have provided co-chairs for wpn2030's steering committee: Prof. Dr. Christa Liedtke (Director of the Sustainable Production and Consumption Division at the Wuppertal Institute and member of the leadership council of SDSN Germany since 2018), Prof. Dr. Daniela Jacob (DKN Future Earth) and Prof. Dr. Patrizia Nanz (IASS Potsdam). They are jointly responsible for the content and operational design of wpn2030's work.

Prof. Dr. Christa Liedtke will be pursue three main points of content, which also create synergies with the Wuppertal Institute:

  • Creation of a vision paper on the future communication of wpn2030 with different communication/interaction formats
  • Introduce the topic of communication between science and politics into the advisory board's dialogue as well as intensively supporting it
  • Design a sustainable life and business and researching the topic lifestyle in terms of SDG12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns)
