SynErgie 2

Flexibly Adjusting Industrial Processes to Fluctuating Power Supply

  • Project no.151881
  • Duration 11/2019 - 10/2022

SynErgie is one of the nationwide projects within the funding initiative of Kopernikus projects for the energy transition. The project is dedicated to the question of how a flexible alignment of industrial processes to a fluctuating energy supply can balance the electricity system.

In addition to the Technical University of Darmstadt and the University of Stuttgart, other research institutions from RWTH Aachen University to the universities of Bayreuth, Darmstadt, Karlsruhe, Cologne and Stuttgart and the Technical University of Munich are also involved in SynErgie 2. In addition, 40 industrial companies from the energy-intensive industry are among the project partners.

The Wuppertal Institute's contribution to analysing potentials and systemic interactions within the second phase of SynErgie is focused on exploring likely potentials for flexibility using case studies of selected disruptively decarbonised production technologies and their material efficiency implications.
