LesSON III

Promoting Liveable Streets, Places and Neighbourhoods Through Municipal Coaching and Networking

  • Project no.252916
  • Duration 09/2022 - 12/2023

How can neighbourhood streets be successfully transformed into liveable places? After this question was successfully investigated in the two projects LesSON I and LesSON II for two streets in Dortmund (Neuer Graben) and Gelsenkirchen (Lothringer Straße), the results and insights gained there are now to be made available to other municipalities in NRW.

For this purpose, three project modules will be implemented:

  • Municipal coaching:
Municipal coaching will be developed and made available to selected cities in NRW. Through the intensive 1:1 support of the municipalities, they are to be enabled to overcome initial hurdles and to start projects in the sense of a "liveable street". Municipal coaching thus clearly goes beyond the initial consultations that have existed so far, as it offers help and support services that are tailored to the specific case study.
  • Digital tool:
A concept for an online tool is to be developed, which not only provides employees of municipal administrations with general information on liveable streets, but also enables initial planning steps and, based on this, initial analyses (e.g. visualisation of new street design, cost estimates, ecosystem services).
  • Networking and knowledge transfer:
The project results are to be published and put up for discussion through networking events, a brochure and publication in a German peer-review journal.
