Systematic Analysis of Potentials and Limits for Natural Gas Conditioning Based on Hydrogen Production from Coal

  • Project no.1133
  • Duration 04/2007 - 03/2009

This study shall systematically analyse the production of hydrogen from coal under different perspectives (technical-economic, energy-economic; concerning climate and environment and socio-economic factors). It focuses particularly on coal gasification on a location by the coast of northern Germany (access to imported coal) with integrated CO2-capture and connection to adequate CO2-storage-infrastructures. The project's aim is to assess opportunities and limits for the gas economy to broaden its range of coal gasification possibilities. In a short outlook alternative energy supply respectively transport infrastructures (for electricity, CO2, synthetic natural gas SNG and hydrogen) for Germany are portrayed and discussed.
