For several years, the Wuppertal Institute has been working on the question of how neighbourhood streets can be successfully transformed into sustainable, decarbonised and liveable streets. The project results to date from the LesSON I to III sub-projects show that there is often a willingness to rethink street spaces and test innovative planning ideas – and that many municipal practice partners also recognise the need for street conversions due to ecological, economic and social challenges. However, the knowledge base and the associated skills for successful street transformations remain very heterogeneous.
As part of the project, an e-learning module will be developed and implemented: The online qualification and training programme will be designed to qualify municipal administrative staff for the relevant tasks and deliver impulses for conversion projects towards liveable streets.
