FAB REGION Bergisch City Triangle

  • Project no.453097
  • Duration 01/2024 - 12/2026

The project "FAB REGION Bergisches Städtedreieck" aims to contribute to a co-creative and sustainable circular economy in the Bergisch city triangle region, encompassing the cities of Wuppertal, Remscheid and Solingen. To achieve this, the globally recognized Fab City approach will be implemented for the first time in Germany on a regional scale.
Three innovation hubs will serve as anchors for the project: the "Gründerschmiede" in Remscheid, the "Gläserne Werkstatt" in Solingen and "Gut Einern" in Wuppertal.

Project goals:

  • Development of co-creative and regional solutions for a sustainable circular economy region
  • Establishment of a network of local innovation sites
  • At the innovation sites, the project partners develop learning formats that enable companies and citizens to achieve sustainable production in the region
  • At the innovation sites, regional companies are connected with citizens and scientists in order to show companies the potential for sustainable transformation and develop strategies for implementation
  • The project aims to involve regional politics in order to achieve a long-term establishment of the transformation
  • Creating the structures necessary to qualify as an official member of the global Fab Cities network

Researchers from the Wuppertal Institute contribute their expertise in the following areas:

  • Co-creation in Fab Lab real-world laboratories: Application of existing Fab Lab learning formats in the region, development of new, region-specific learning formats and development and implementation of pilot projects
  • Ecological impacts: In addition to overarching qualitative and quantitative potential assessments of the impacts of various activities, the implementation of the pilot projects is supported in the context of environmentally relevant aspects
