The Research Information System (Forschungs-Informations-System, FIS) of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport is a policy advisory tool that enables the transfer of knowledge from science and research to politics and planning, particularly in the areas of transport, mobility and digital. The FIS provides a well-founded, comprehensive and systematic overview of the state of science and research in various areas of the mobility field of action.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, the Wuppertal Institute provides the ongoing maintenance of the FIS content as well as its supplementation and further development against the background of current political and other developments in the field of passenger transport. The tasks of the Wuppertal Institute include in particular:

• Updating and maintening the existing knowledge modules of the FIS
• Adapting the FIS content to the current state of research 
• Creating new knowledge maps, including their synthesis reports

The project aims to ensure that the FIS users continue to have quick and easy access to current transport policy developments, mobility trends, new research results and innovative solutions to transport challenges in the area of ​​passenger transport.
