The study identifies and analyses good practice examples of successful transformations to create sustainable living environments at municipal and regional level. These examples should have been implemented with the participation of social actors and enjoy a high level of social acceptance.
Based on these examples, political, regulatory and fiscal measures are to be derived for the federal level in order to create more favourable framework conditions for the dissemination of sustainable transformation activities. The Council for Sustainable Development (German: Rat für Nachhaltige Entwicklung, or RNE for short) advises the German Federal Government on sustainability policy. Based on the results of the study, it will subsequently develop recommendations for the implementation of policy instruments to enable sustainable living environments.
