The circular economy is a great beacon of hope on the way to achieving global sustainability goals: It not only aims to help reduce the environmental impact associated with the extraction and use of resources, but also to strengthen the resilience of the economy and society. For this reason, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (German: Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz, or BMUV for short) is developing a National Circular Economy Strategy (NCES). The ministry aims to involve a wide range of stakeholders in order to incorporate different perspectives and approach the extensive change processes in a cooperative dialogue.
The BMUV has commissioned the project partners ifok, Öko-Institut and the Wuppertal Institute to support this stakeholder process. Stakeholder participation is to be ensured in two phases: In the first phase, the draft of the NCES is developed. In this context, the project team will organise various participation formats for the strategy's fields of action, and will also support the writing process. The Wuppertal Institute will provide support in the form of technical expertise in the fields of plastics and construction, among others. It will also support public relations. In the second phase, once the NCES has been adopted, the focus will be on its implementation and continuation. The Wuppertal Institute will also provide technical and conceptual support during this phase.
