As part of the BNErft project, an extracurricular learning and experience place for sustainable thinking and action is being created around Türnich Castle. Here, teenagers and young adults can experience the interlinking of a wide range of sustainability-related topics. The project focuses on testing system thinking to enable young people to make responsible and sustainable decisions.
Adopting a co-creation approach, researchers from the Wuppertal Institute are developing new educational formats in workshops with teenagers, young adults and partners from science and practice. They will be used in different stations along an educational path around the castle grounds, illustrating aspects such as soil, energy production or water quality. The aim is to create a multifaceted and educational landscape for sustainable development around Türnich Castle, where complex systems can be experienced, understood and then applied to other areas of life.
The learning location will be working closely with existing offerings in the surrounding area, particularly the neighbouring ESD regional centre Gymnicher Mühle. This will create a coherent landscape of ESD experiences in the Erftaue region.
The educational formats developed will be bundled in a mediation guide and practice-oriented handouts so that they can be consolidated and transferred to other educational settings.
