Increasing Resource Efficiency in Small and Medium Sized Companies (SME)

  • Project no.1421
  • Duration 08/2009 - 10/2010

Water, soil, raw materials - dealing with valuable resources belongs to the large challenges of the 21st century. For enterprises, resource efficiency offers the opportunity to save resources, to reduce detrimental emissions and to cut costs. Resources have to be used in a more intelligent way which is the central meaning of resource efficiency. In order to tap the full potential it is crucial not only to optimise single technologies or components of produts; instead value chains and product life cycles, i.e. the resource efficient production, use and disposal of a product, are to be analysed systematically.

The target of the project is to contribute to advancements of resource productivity and resource protection in Germany. In order to initialise future actor coalitions for system innovations the project tends to identify potentials, actors and packadges of measures by conducting regional workshops. Thereby key actors are to be integrated in a way that is meant to induce multiplier effects.
Target groups are SMEs, handcraft, consulting firms, service provider in the field of production, regional actors.
Expected positive effects are:

  • Incentives for regions: initiatives for pilot projects, demonstration projects;
  • Multiplier effects;
  • Identification of potentials to reduce costs by increasing resource efficiency (e.g. more efficient use of material and energy; improvements of material flows).
